A professional move out clean of an empty 1 or 2 bedroom apartment usually takes one cleaner four to seven hours, or about half that with a team of two. Doing it yourself usually takes longer, often a full day for a 2 bedroom home.
Typical time by home size
| Home | One cleaner | Team of two |
|---|---|---|
| Studio | 3 to 4 hours | 2 hours |
| 1 bedroom | 4 to 5 hours | 2 to 3 hours |
| 2 bedrooms | 5 to 7 hours | 3 to 4 hours |
| 3 bedrooms | 7 to 9 hours | 4 to 5 hours |
| 4 bedrooms or more | 9 hours or more | 5 hours or more |
Typical times for an empty home in average condition with the usual number of bathrooms. Your cleaner will give an estimate when they quote.
What makes it take longer
- The oven and fridge. A heavily greased oven alone can take an hour
- Bathrooms. Each extra bathroom adds roughly an hour, more with heavy soap scum or mildew
- Furniture still in place. Cleaners work around it slowly, and miss less in an empty home
- Older homes. Original tile, wood floors and old window tracks need more care. Many cottages in Lake Worth Beach and older homes in Northwood fall into this group
- Extras. Inside windows, walls, a patio or garage add time
When to book it
- Book a week or more ahead. The last days of each month are the busiest for move outs
- Schedule it for after the movers and before you hand back the keys, ideally a day or two before, so anything missed can be fixed
- Keep the power and water on until the clean is finished
- Defrost the freezer the day before so the cleaner is not waiting on it
Prices depend on the same things as time. See what a move out clean costs, or send a request for a move out clean and a local cleaner will call you to quote.
